The Class I course has been approved by the Virginia Board for Waste Management Facility Operators and is required by the Board regulations for certification as a Class I Waste Management Facility Operator. This is a two-day course for operators of Class I facilities, including those which are defined as transfer stations, material recovery facilities receiving mixed waste, experimental facilities, or composting facilities receiving yard waste. The course is designed to acquaint landfill operators with the Virginia Solid Waste Management Regulations and prepare them to take the Board examination for Class I (Basic) certification.
The requirement for successful completion of the course and to earn Virginia continuing education hours is attendance at all modules.
Class will be held at the Fairfax County – West Ox Complex/I-66 Transfer Station. Please arrive by 7:45, the class begins at 8:00 a.m.
Here are some driving hints: As you drive into the Complex, remain in the far right-hand lane and go through the stop sign. Begin to pass the Scalehouse on the left and bear hard to the right. Enter in the area that says “Trucks Only” and turn into the small parking lot across from the Scalehouse on your right-hand side. There is a building (4618D) on the right. The training is located in the Conference Room on the second floor of 4618D building.
Course materials will be provided, casual dress is encouraged and lunch will be served. This is a two day, 8 hour per day classroom program.
An important reminder, that upon completion of this course you will need to send a copy of your Certificate to the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR, 9960 Mayland Drive, Suite 400, Richmond, VA 23233) to ensure your records are updated for the exam.
